Netflix has just wrapped the third season of Wednesday, with production on the show now officially at an end, but there might be more to it than that, after a member of Jenna Ortega’s team’s innocuous message marking the end of the shoot set conspiracy theories ablaze about the end of the series itself.
Jenny Ayumi, Ortega’s longtime stunt double on Wednesday, posted a pair of Instagram Stories following the completion of Season 3 that appeared to suggest her time on the Netflix phenomenon had come to an end. The first contained a particularly eyebrow-raising message:
“End of an era.. 🖤
A 5 year chapter finally comes to a close 🎬🖤”
Ayumi then shared a photograph from the show’s original production in Romania, writing:
“A little throwback to where it all began 5 years ago in Romania 🥹🖤”
Notably, that first Instagram story has now been deleted. Netflix has not officially announced that Wednesday Season 3 will be the show’s final season, and so her comments therefore shouldn’t be treated as confirmation of a cancellation or planned ending. It could be the case that she’s gotten the wrong end of the stick, or it could be the case that the “Netflix snipers” got in touch to let her know it shouldn’t be announced like that, but either way, deleting the message suddenly makes Things look more suspicious.
What Do We Know About ‘Wednesday’ Season 3?
Season 3 will significantly expand the Addams family side of the series, with Eva Green (Penny Dreadful) joining as Morticia’s long-missing sister, Ophelia. Season 2 revealed that Ophelia was secretly imprisoned at Grandmama Hester’s mansion, where she had written the extremely reassuring message “Wednesday Must Die” on the wall. Netflix has confirmed that her return will become a major driver of the new season.
Ortega returns alongside Emma Myers (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder) as Enid Sinclair, Hunter Doohan (Your Honor) as Tyler Galpin, Joy Sunday (Dear White People) as Bianca Barclay, Isaac Ordonez (A Wrinkle in Time) as Pugsley Addams, Billie Piper (Doctor Who) as Isadora Capri, and Victor Dorobantu as Thing.
The expanded ensemble also includes Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago) as Morticia, Luis Guzmán (Boogie Nights) as Gomez, Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous) as Grandmama Hester, and Fred Armisen (Portlandia) as Uncle Fester. New additions include Winona Ryder (Stranger Things), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Chris Sarandon (The Princess Bride), and Andrew McCarthy (Pretty in Pink).
Wednesday Season 3 has officially wrapped production and will premiere on Netflix in 2027.
