‘The Book of Eli’ Is Getting a Series Adaptation!!

A recent announcement has confirmed that an underrated Denzel Washington movie will be getting its television adaptation soon. This news comes after fans pleaded for a sequel to The Book of Eli.

As per an exclusive report from Deadline, Alcon has launched a new studio division where it has plans to adapt several big-screen scripts into TV shows. One of these projects is the post-apocalyptic 2010 movie, The Book of Eli. The original film is led by Washington and Gary Oldman. It also stars Jennifer Beals, Joe Pingue, Tom Waits, Mila Kunis, Evan Jones, Chris Browning, Michael Gambon, and Ray Stevenson.

The film follows a wanderer who treks across a desolate, post-apocalyptic America. His journey finds him protecting a mysterious book which offers the key to mankind’s salvation.

News of this television series might not please fans of the original. Despite demands for a sequel going back over a decade, the upcoming television series may actually be a prequel. This means the ending of the 2010 original is, as of now, settled ground.

What happened at the end of Denzel Washington’s The Book of Eli?

At the end of the 2010 post-apocalyptic action movie, The Book of Eli, Eli reaches a sanctuary on Alcatraz Island accompanied by Solara. The island is dedicated to preserving knowledge, art and literature.

Reaching the island, Eli tells Lombardi that he carries the Bible and starts reciting it from his memory. Eli turned blind and thus recited the whole Bible from his memory, relying on faith and divine guidance as the survivors write them down. After dictating the whole of the King James Bible, he breathes his last and dies from his wounds.

Antagonist Carnegie, played by Gary Oldman, faces defeat as the Bible he had stolen from Eli was printed in Braille and he could not read it. Doomed with no hope of survival, he succumbed to a mortal infection from a leg wound. To preserve the Bible, an old printing press on Alcatraz Island begins printing fresh copies. Lombardi then places a completed copy on a shelf alongside other sacred texts, such as the Torah and Qu’ran.
