Jack O’Connell and Odessa A’zion will attempt to prove a controversial theory in an upcoming movie. The project also comes from the filmmaking duo behind the Oscar-winning short film An Irish Goodbye.
According to Variety, A’zion will star alongside O’Connell in Studiocanal’s upcoming movie, The End of the World as We Know It. They will play a pair of star-crossed loners who meet on an epic journey to prove the Earth is flat. The movie marks the feature directorial debut of Oscar-winning duo Ross White and Tom Berkeley.
In an official statement about the casting, White and Berkeley said, “We feel intensely lucky to have the inimitable Jack O’Connell and Odessa A’zion bringing these star-crossed loners to life and, with the backing of the wonderful teams at Studiocanal, Working Title, Parkville and Film4, we can’t wait to take audiences on their unique, cinematic journey.”
A’zion is known for playing Joey Del Marco in Grand Army and Riley McKendry in Hellraiser. Her other credits include Fam, Ghosts, Marty Supreme, and Until Dawn. O’Connell played Remmick in Sinners and Sir Jimmy Crystal in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. He is also known for Ink, Rogue Heroes, Unbroken, ’71, and Starred Up.
The flat-Earth quest is only part of the story
The End of the World as We Know It is described as an unlikely adventure in truth and love. According to the directors, “It is a story we discovered hiding in the strangest of places, but one that seemed to speak profoundly to our collective search for meaning, belonging, and love in an increasingly disparate world.” No additional plot details have been released yet.
The directing duo Berkeley and White will also write the movie. Production is set to begin in Canada this November. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Olivier Kaempfer will serve as producers. Executive producers include Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Joe Naftalin, Katherine Pomfret, Thea Paulett, and Amanda Drake.
Apart from A’zion and O’Connell, no other casting news has been announced. The movie does not yet have a release date, but it will be released theatrically in the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Poland, the Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand.
