‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging’: British Cult Classic Is Getting a Netflix Reboot!!

Netflix certainly loves a novel adaptation. Right now on the platform, the most-watched show is a stunning rendition of a celebrated 1952 family saga by the iconic John Steinbeck. East of Eden, the streaming chart-topper across the world by quite some distance, follows the tragic destiny of the Trasks and the Hamiltons, with Florence Pugh taking the lead as Cathy Ames ahead of her December appearances in Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three.

Challengers‘ Mike Faist, Poor Things‘ Christopher Abbott, and Warrior‘s Hoon Lee also feature in the adaptation, which is proving a massive fall hit for Netflix. Scoring a huge 6.5 million views in its first four days of streaming is proof that the adaptation formula is a success for Netflix. So what next? Well, the biggest streamer in the world has set its sights on a novel considered a defining coming-of-age tale for a generation of Brits that has already been adapted into a cult classic starring a young Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Of course, the novel in question is Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, the 1999 novel by author Louise Rennison and the first of ten entries in the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series. Taylor-Johnson previously starred opposite Georgia Groome and Poldark favorite Eleanor Tomlinson in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, the 2008 adaptation that is still considered one of the defining teen movies of the 2000s, directed by Bend It Like Beckham‘s Gurinder Chadha. Netflix has officially greenlit a pilot for the adaptation of Rennison‘s novel, with the hunt for the new Ace Gang ongoing.

Who is Involved in the ‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging’ Adaptation?

A superb team has already been assembled to take on the challenge of adapting this novel for a new generation, with a cult following waiting to see if their favorite source material can be done streaming justice. Monica Heisey, a comedy writer who has worked on the likes of Schitt’s Creek, Workin’ Moms, and Smothered, is writing the pilot, with veteran British director Jim O’Hanlon (Catastrophe, The Punisher) also on board. Breeders‘ Jon Jennings is producing, with Sam Leifer (Plebs, How to Build a Girl) executive producing.
