No one expected Richard Gadd‘s personal thriller Baby Reindeer to become the streaming sensation of 2024. The previously unknown actor didn’t quite break out overnight, but strong word of mouth and the high quality of his deeply affecting series eventually gave Baby Reindeer a 49% viewership surge in its second week. This quickly skyrocketed to previously unfathomable heights as the show broke into the Top 10 most-viewed English TV series of all time, earning roughly 90 million views in just 90 days.
Understandably, most of the praise for Baby Reindeer went the way of Gadd, whose choice to explore the darkest of his trauma alone is worthy of acclaim. Gadd was nominated for and won numerous major awards for the series, but so did co-star Jessica Gunning, whose performance as Martha even earned her the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film. Two years since the series took over the world, it’s now been revealed that Gunning is returning to Netflix for an exciting new adaptation.
Gunning will star in Feral, a seven-part comedy drama based on the novel Savages by Shirley Conran. Set to start shooting in Australia this year, the series also features plenty of other famous faces, including Triangle of Sadness‘ Dolly de Leon, Genevieve O’Reilly, Quintessa Swindell, and Downton Abbey favorite Michelle Dockery. The logline for the series reads:
“Four very different women accompany their mining executive husbands on a corporate holiday to a beautiful but lethal tropical island. When the men’s shady deals land them all in danger, the women must learn to survive the jungle – and each other. Can they put aside their differences, self-doubts and vanities to stay alive?”
Jessica Gunning Starred in an Underrated 2026 Adaptation
Earlier this year, a cozy adaptation of Enid Blyton‘s The Magic Faraway Tree failed to make much of an impact at the box office but dazzled those who did watch it. Gunning featured in the adaptation alongside the likes of Andrew Garfield, Rebecca Ferguson, Claire Foy, and many more in a comforting gem that managed to earn “certified fresh” status on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and is one of the most underrated family films of the past twelve months.
