After that shocking bathtub scene in the Season 3 finale, fans of Taylor Sheridan‘s hit spy thriller Lioness are holding their breath for news on the series’ future. Anything short of a renewal would be devastating, and that’s putting it mildly. Right out of the gate, Lioness got off to a strong start, but the series has become even more compelling with each chapter. Season 3 raised the stakes in spectacularly unexpected fashion, abandoning the familiar playbook of its first two seasons for a more unpredictable, high-wire espionage thriller packed with tension, twists, and edge-of-your-seat suspense. The finale’s jaw-dropping developments have since left fans scrambling for clues and piecing together theories about what could come next.
Season 3’s biggest highlight was the unexpected return of Aaliyah Amrohi (Stephanie Nur), the daughter of a billionaire terrorist financier whose operation was dismantled by the CIA’s covert Lioness program in Season 1. Back then, Joe (Zoe Saldaña) recruited Marine Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira) to infiltrate Aaliyah’s inner circle and get close enough to her father, Asmar Ali Amrohi, to eliminate him. The mission, though ultimately accomplished, took an unexpected turn when Cruz and her target’s daughter developed romantic feelings for each other. Their sizzling chemistry, Nur’s impeccable performance, and her character’s heartbreaking story made her a fan favorite, with viewers hoping the two would somehow find their way back to each other.
After sitting out Season 2, Aaliyah finally returned in Season 3, but the woman fans remembered has been hardened by betrayal and devastating loss. Now a woman scorned and driven by revenge, she’s already inflicted considerable damage on the CIA’s Lioness program, and the Season 3 finale teases she’s only getting started. Fans have theorized that she could become the main villain in a potential Season 4 while somehow reuniting with Cruz. But with her revenge operation putting her on a collision course with the CIA, the odds of a happy ending are looking increasingly slim. Also, a new development in Nur‘s career suggests her Lioness character might appear only sparingly in Season 4, if at all.
Stephanie Nur Has Landed a New Series Regular Role
The stars of Lioness were reportedly signed to three-year contracts, which have now run their course with the conclusion of Season 3. So far, Paramount+ has not renewed those deals or announced whether the spy thriller will return for Season 4. With no new contracts in place, the cast is free to pursue other opportunities, and Nur appears to have found her next assignment. According to a new report, the actress has landed a series regular role in Apple TV‘s upcoming dramedy Beat the Reaper, co-starring Will Poulter, J.K. Simmons, Damon Herriman, Artoun Nazareth, and Molly Price.
The casting could complicate Aaliyah’s future in Lioness, particularly if Nur‘s new commitment limits her availability. However, chances remain she could still play a pivotal role without appearing in every episode, as in Season 3, though fans would much prefer she features more prominently. Of course, this remains speculation until Paramount+ officially decides on the show’s future and direction.Â
