Apple TV’s upcoming true-crime thriller has added another major player to its high-profile ensemble.
The Recruit star Maddie Hasson has officially joined the series’ regular cast of Guilty Creatures, starring opposite two-time Emmy winner Julia Garner and Lewis Pullman.
Directed by Craig Gillespie with Stuart Zicherman serving as showrunner, the project marks a reunion for Hasson and Gillespie following their collaboration on the 2017 biographical drama I, Tonya.
Hasson’s casting comes during a busy period for the actor, who is also set to feature in Netflix’s upcoming drama The Altruist from Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions.
Her recent credits include the survival thriller Bone Lake, James Wan’s New Line Cinema horror hit Malignant, Sony Pictures Classics’ Novitiate alongside Margaret Qualley and Melissa Leo, and the musical drama Taurus featuring Machine Gun Kelly, Megan Fox, and Scoot McNairy.
What to know about Apple TV’s Guilty Creatures?
Guilty Creatures is adapted from Mikita Brottman’s acclaimed non-fiction book Guilty Creatures: Sex, God, and Murder in Tallahassee, Florida.
A true crime story, it follows an adulterous affair of two young “God-fearing” lovers in the Florida Panhandle. It explores how the lovers lived as killers for a full eighteen years. Pullman and Garner could play the lovers in the adaptation.
Screenwriter Sarah DeLappe has adapted the true-crime narrative for television and happens to be the executive producer of the show.
The show is produced by Tomorrow Studios, best known for Netflix’s adaptation of the seminal manga series, One Piece. Guilty Creatures is developed through the studio’s first look deal with Garner’s Alma Margo and director Gillespie’s Fortunate Jack Productions.
Executive producers on the project include Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Alissa Bachner, alongside Garner for Alma Margo, Gillespie and Annie Marter for Fortunate Jack Productions, showrunner Zicherman, DeLappe, and author Brottman.
Apple TV has not yet announced an official release window for Guilty Creatures.
