‘Glee’ Officially Sets Disney+ & Hulu Reboot!!

Prepare to either be delighted with glee, or get ready to smash your televisions again because one of the most divisive shows ever put to air is officially on the way back. More than a decade after Ryan Murphy inflicted upon, or delighted us, depending on your point of view, with his musical comedy series, it’s back. Yes, we can’t let sleeping dogs lie and McKinley High School is preparing to open its doors once again. The original series gave audiences unforgettable musical performances and a psychopathic villain in a red track uniform, so why wouldn’t people want more?

Disney+ and Hulu have officially ordered a new Glee series, bringing the show back to television for the first time since its original six-season run ended in March 2015, having received a formal order to series from 20th Television. And yes, Murphy is returning because he’s not working on enough shows at the moment. Murphy will be returning alongside fellow creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, and the announcement follows the trio’s completion of a new script in September, although a premiere date, storyline and returning cast members have yet to be confirmed. Murphy told ET back in September:

“I just finished the script an hour ago. So we have a script. Brad and Ian and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something.”

Who Starred in ‘Glee’?

The original series starred Lea Michele (Funny Girl) as Rachel Berry, Matthew Morrison (American Horror Story) as Will Schuester, Jane Lynch (Only Murders in the Building) as Sue Sylvester, Chris Colfer as Kurt Hummel, Amber Riley as Mercedes Jones, Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace) as Blaine Anderson and Dianna Agron (Shiva Baby) as Quinn Fabray, while Cory Monteith as Finn Hudson and Naya Rivera as Santana Lopez, both of whom died in untimely fashion, were part of the original core cast.

Across its six seasons, Glee earned six Primetime Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes, so that’s proof enough that it was genuinely very good at its strongest. The teen drama and sharply written characters were the driving force behind its popularity, while the music probably didn’t hurt. Its popularity has continued through streaming, with younger audiences discovering the series years after its original conclusion.

The original series is available on Disney+ and Hulu.
