DCU fans have been looking forward to Season 2 of the animated series, Creature Commandos. Unfortunately, they are utterly disappointed after the latest update from James Gunn on its release timeline.
The filmmaker recently reflected on when Creature Commandos Season 2 will release. A fan asked him on Threads, “Loved Clayface! Can we expect for Creature Commandos S2 to drop before or after MoT? Would be awesome to see Clayface in that.” In response, Gunn said the project won’t come out until Man of Tomorrow.
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to debut in theaters on July 9, 2027. This means Creature Commandos fans will have to wait a long time for their favorite heroes. As of now, no specific release date has been announced for Season 2 of the animated series.
What happened in the first season of Creature Commandos?
Creature Commandos Season 1 follows Amanda Waller, who assembles Task Force M, aka the Creature Commandos. The black-ops monster team is built to handle a crisis in the European nation of Pokolistan. After General Rick Flag Sr. and Waller learn that the Sons of Themyscira overthrew Pokolistan’s royal family and threatened U.S. oil negotiations, they decide to deploy Task Force M.
The series also includes Clayface, who impersonated Amazonian mythology expert Dr. Aisla MacPherson to mislead Amanda Waller. In the end, Weasel inadvertently tips off Princess Ilana Rostovic before Waller could interfere. The Princess kills Nina Mazursky. Following such a loss, the Bride confronted Princess Ilana and shot her in the head.
The synopsis for Creature Commandos Season 1 reads, “In this edgy DC animated series, a secret team of incarcerated monsters is the last resort for missions deemed too dangerous for humans.”
The series premiered on HBO Max on December 5, 2024, and the final episode aired on January 9, 2025.
