Leonardo DiCaprio’s acclaimed The Wolf of Wall Street story is returning in a new form. A documentary series titled The Real Wolf of Wall Street is headed to Paramount+, offering a closer look at the true events behind Martin Scorsese’s 2013 Oscar-nominated film.
According to reports, the three-part documentary has also been acquired by BBC for the U.K. and Stan for Australia. Produced by Hat Trick International, the series premiered at MIPCOM Cannes and revisits the rise and fall of notorious stockbroker Jordan Belfort, who was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the feature film.
Inside the real story behind The Wolf of Wall Street
Unlike the Hollywood adaptation, The Real Wolf of Wall Street aims to present a detailed account of the actual events surrounding Jordan Belfort. The documentary features previously unseen footage, internal FBI documents, archival interviews, and contributions from Belfort’s ex-wife Nadine, whose life inspired the character played by Margot Robbie in the film.
The series traces Belfort’s meteoric rise during the 1990s as the head of brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont, as well as his eventual downfall following convictions for fraud and stock market manipulation. After serving nearly two years in prison, Belfort later cooperated with the FBI and provided information against others involved in the scheme.
“We all love a great behind-the-scenes story, and The Wolf of Wall Street was such a huge cultural hit that we think we all feel we know this story,” said Sarah Tong, Director of Sales at Hat Trick International. “But this series gives us something completely different: the real people who were there, telling us for the first time what actually happened.”
The Real Wolf of Wall Street has not yet received an official premiere date on Paramount+.
