Oscar-winning filmmaker Ang Lee has begun rolling cameras on his next feature. The director took some time in choosing his follow-up project to Life of Pi, for which he won the Best Director Oscar, and he settled on the war drama/satire Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, which he shot entirely at High Frame Rate. The film—and its format—didn’t go over too well with audiences or … Continue reading Ang Lee’s ‘Gemini Man’ Starts Filming as Will Smith Shares First Set Video!!! Check It Out!!
Synopsis – A dark force threatens Alpha, a vast metropolis and home to species from a thousand planets. Special operatives Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe. My Take – While most may not consider French director Luc Beeson a high-profile director, even though he has classics such as La Femme … Continue reading Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) Review!!!
Cynically, it’s easy to look at Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and think, “This gets to exist because Guardians of the Galaxy is a hit.” And yes, there’s a financial calculus that goes into a studio greenlighting a big, VFX-driven sci-fi action movie. But I prefer to see Valerian as a passion project for writer-director Luc Besson, and it’s nice that he’s … Continue reading ‘Valerian’: New Featurette Chronicles the Transition from Page to Screen!! When it comes to movie marketing, there are generally two schools of thought: A film can either cram references to every suitor into the narrative in an obtrusive way like Man of Steel‘s record-setting product placement, or it can feature the tag “Presented by Company X” and let the director’s artistic vision shine through regardless of the merchandise being hawked. A fine example of the latter is … Continue reading Clive Owen Returns as The Driver in Neill Blomkamp’s BMW Short Film ‘The Escape’!! Check It Out!!
While Luc Besson had an international hit just two years ago with the Scarlett Johansson-led actioner Lucy, it’s been a while since the director knocked it out of the park with the action-packed panache we’ve come to expect from his best films. Perhaps that’s why I initially dismissed Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets until I was completely gobsmacked by the ingenious show of creativity Besson unveiled at Comic-Con. … Continue reading ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’: New Images Tease Luc Besson’s Sci-Fi Epic!! Few modern action directors have proven so prolific and keen as Luc Besson, especially when you count the man’s producing ventures. Though I can’t count myself as a big fan of La Femme Nikita, The Family, or The Big Blue, I would say that The Fifth Element, Lucy, and, especially, Leon the Professional would be amongst a list of my favorite action films. So, anticipation … Continue reading ‘Valerian’: First Image Reveals Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne in Luc Besson’s Sci-Fi Epic!!
