‘Jojo Rabbit’: Taika Waititi’s Next Lands October Release Date!!!

What We Do In the Shadows and Thor: Ragnarok mastermind Taika Waititi is back with an “anti-hate satire”, Jojo Rabbit, which just officially landed a release date: October 18. This not only sets the film up for a potential awards season run—Oscar-winner Taika Waititi, what a concept—but makes it highly likely it screens at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 5-15.

This thing sounds absolutely bananagrams and I couldn’t be more excited for it. Based on the novel “Caging Skies” by novelist Christine Leunens, the dark satire set in Nazi Germany follows a young boy named Jojo (Roman Griffith Davis) whose imaginary best friend is Adolf Hitler (Waititi). Filling out the incredible cast are Scarlett JohanssonSam RockwellRebel Wilson, Alfie Allen, and Stephen Merchant.

Waititi’s occasional updates from the set have been about as delightful as humanly possible for a film set in Nazi Germany.

Here is the official synopsis for Jojo Rabbit:

Writer director Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK, HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE), brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in her attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his naive patriotism.
