Not long after it was announced that Gen V Season 2 had officially wrapped filming, one of the show’s biggest breakout stars just secured a role in a major franchise. A new report from Deadline revealed that Asa Germann, known for playing Sam Riordan in the hit Prime Video series Gen V, has joined the cast of Scream 7 in a supporting role. Details about Germann’s character are being kept under wraps, as is the plot, but he joins Scream veteran Neve Campbell, who appeared in the debut Scream film in 1996 before reprising her role as Sidney Prescott in the 2022 sequel. Also tapped for roles in Scream 7 are Celeste O’Connor and Isabel May, the former of which has been formed to play Prescott’s daughter.
Scream made its triumphant return to the big screen in 2022 with the sequel starring Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, both of whom will not return for Scream 7. Once the news dropped earlier this year that Barrera had been let go from the project, Collider exclusively reported after speaking with her that she was happy with where Sam’s arc finished in Scream 6, and had no reservations about whether she was making the right decision. Both Ortega and Barrera have had no trouble finding success in other roles beyond Scream, with the former making headlines thanks to her performance in Wednesday, the Netflix Original series from Tim Burton. As for Barrera, she teamed up with Dan Stevens earlier this year for Abigail — the horror comedy streaming on Prime Video that grossed $42 million at the box office on a reported budget of $28 million.
What Is the Highest-Grossing ‘Scream’ Movie?
As is the case with many franchises, the first Scream was released in 1996 and is still the highest-grossing installment in the franchise, but not by much. The film earned $173 million at the worldwide box office, less than $1 million ahead of its sequel, Scream 2, which dropped in theaters almost exactly one year later. The lowest-grossing Scream movie came in 2011 with Scream 4, which finished its theatrical run as the only installment in the franchise with less than $100 million at the worldwide box office. The most recent Scream film grossed $169 million worldwide on a $35 million budget.
Scream 7 has been set for release in theaters on February 27, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates on the film and watch Scream (2022) on Netflix.
