Ghostface is going to need a new knife by the end of this movie. The cast of Scream 7 just got even bigger—and bloodier as Ethan Embry, known for his roles in First Man and Grace & Frankie — oh, and one of a number of Rusty Griswolds in the Vacation series — has officially joined the growing ensemble of the highly anticipated sequel, as per Deadline. Embry will star alongside franchise alum Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Scott Foley, and the long-awaited return of Matthew Lillard, as well as returning favourites Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Obviously, we don’t know much about the plot, because Scream, but it’s already looking like one of the biggest movies of 2026.
Aside from his upcoming role in Scream 7, Embry will appear in the independent films Alma and the Wolf and The Gymnast. He’s no stranger to both film and TV, with credits ranging from cult classics like Empire Records and Can’t Hardly Wait to dramas like Blindspotting and Last Seen Alive. On the small screen, Embry was one of the main cast of Netflix’s Grace and Frankie, which ran for seven seasons. He’s also appeared in shows like Once Upon a Time, Brotherhood, and even The Walking Dead.
Embry isn’t the only new face joining the ranks of Scream 7 either. The film’s roster of franchise newcomers includes Isabel May (1883), Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Asa Germann (Gen V), Mckenna Grace (The Handmaid’s Tale, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Joel McHale(Community), and Mark Consuelos (Riverdale, Live with Kelly and Mark), adding an eclectic mix of talent for Ghostface to presumably butcher for sport.
How Successful are the ‘Scream’ Movies?
Scream 7 should take the franchise beyond the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, following remarkably consistent returns since its 1996 bow. The original earned an impressive $173 million globally, followed closely by Scream 2 in 1997, which brought in $172 million worldwide. Scream 3 hit theaters in 2000 and grossed $162 million globally.
Scream 4 proved to be the franchise’s outlier, pulling in just $97 million worldwide. Its very meta storyline may have arrived a bit ahead of its time, and it went to sleep for a decade. However, the franchise made a triumphant return with 2022’s Scream, raking in $139 million on a modest $24 million budget. Its sequel, Scream VI, released the following year, became the highest-grossing entry since Scream 2, earning $169 million worldwide
Scream 7 is set to slash into cinemas on February 27, 2026.
