‘Duster’: First Teaser, Images Finally Reveal J.J. Abrams’ New Crime Drama Series!! Check It Out!!

We finally know when J.J. Abrams‘ long-awaited period thriller series will race on to Max. Plus, new images showcase the cast and the 1970s settings and fashion of Duster, the tale of a cocky getaway driver teaming up with the FBI’s first Black female agent. The series will premiere on the streamer on Thursday, May 15.

Duster centers around Jim (Josh Holloway, who made his name on AbramsLost), a getaway driver in the US Southwest of the 1970s. He works for an ambitious crime syndicate that also happens to be the target for tenacious rookie FBI agent Nina (Rachel Hilson, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty). However, as the images reveal, they won’t be at odds for long, as they’re forced into an odd-couple partnership to stay alive. They also show off the series’ other cast members, including Keith David (The Thing), Camille Guaty (Prison Break), Benjamin Charles Watson (Designated Survivor), and Asivak Koostachin (Red Snow). The series will premiere on Max on Thursday, May 15 at 9 p.m. EST; new episodes of the eight-episode first season will air weekly until its season finale on July 3.

What Other TV Series Has J.J. Abrams Created?

Although his biggest hits have been on the big screen lately, Abrams has a solid track record as a TV hitmaker. He created his first TV series in 1998: Felicity centered around Felicity Porter (Keri Russell) and her college experience in New York City. Unlike many of his subsequent efforts, the series featured no fantastical elements at all…until the time-travel plotline in its last season. After Felicity, the hits kept coming for Abrams, including the spy thriller Alias, the mystery series Lost, and the science fiction procedural Fringe. However, his winning streak ended with the 2010 action series Undercovers; it was cancelled after seven episodes. Although he executive produced a number of series afterward, including Person of Interest, Lovecraft Country, and Presumed Innocent, he turned his attention to the movies, and hadn’t created another series until now.

Duster was co-created by Abrams and showrunner LaToya Morgan (Into the Badlands); they also wrote the first two episodes. Those first two episodes were directed by and executive produced by Steph Green (Watchmen). The series is executive produced by Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich for Bad Robot, and by Morgan for TinkerToy Productions. It is a production of Warner Bros. Television.

Duster will premiere on Max on Thursday, May 15: new episodes will premiere weekly until the season finale debuts on July 3.
