‘FBI: CIA’: ‘Lucifer’ Star Tom Ellis Joins New ‘FBI’ Spin-Off!!

FBI and Lucifer fans heads up, the two shows are now connected with the same thread as Tom Ellis is set to lead a new FBI offshoot with working title FBI: CIA. The spinoff has got a straight to series order at CBS, per the reports. Initially the new show was supposed to be introduced in an episode of the mothership series this spring but instead got a series order.

CIA is written by original show creator Dick Wolf, FBI: Most Wanted showrunner David Hudgins, and Nicole Perlman, along with former CIA officer David Chasteen ensuring the DNA of the original series continues in character and story arcs while Chasteen should bring the heightened realism to it.

What is ‘FBI: CIA’ About?

FBI: CIA centers on two unlikely partners whom we’ll follow. Ellis plays a fast-talking, rule-breaking loose cannon CIA case officer, who is partnered with a by-the-book, seasoned and smart FBI agent who believes in the rule of law (casting yet to be disclosed). Things take a turn when this odd couple are assigned to work out of CIA’s New York Station. When push comes to shove, they must learn to work together to investigate cases and criminals posing threats on U.S. soil and eventually finding that their differences may actually be their strength.

Originally, the characters were to be introduced in the mothership, however, due to casting delays it couldn’t come to fruition. Nonetheless, with Ellis in the lead (fans know how he loves to play a rule breaker) and an interesting dynamic between the leading pair per the show details, the series will be the one to watch out for. Ellis will be next seen opposite Sterling K. Brown on the upcoming Hulu limited series Washington Black and Netflix’s Thursday Murder Club.

The offshoot is executive produced by Wolf, Hudgins, who will also serve as showrunner, along with Perlman, Chasteen and Peter Jankowski for Wolf Entertainment. No release date has been announced for FBI: CIA yet.
