It’s all about family today in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Frankie Muniz enjoyed a little one-on-one time with his TV parents, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek. The trio are all smiles in an image that Muniz shared on his social media while filming the eagerly-anticipated Malcolm in the Middle revival. Our sweet little millennial hearts are a little less dark today after seeing the actors on the set of the Disney+ series, with Muniz captioning his post “Always good to have Mom and Dad around!” That it is, that it is.
The gang might be all smiles now, but we’ll need to wait to see just how well their on-screen personas get along when the four-episode project arrives down the line. Fans of the original series will know that things can get a little chaotic when the whole family is together with the explosion of personalities — not to mention testosterone. Over four episodes, audiences will catch up with the family who enjoyed a popular and successful run for seven seasons before going off the air in 2006. Muniz‘s Malcolm, along with his brothers, are all grown up and their parents, Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek), are now grandparents. The short but sweet and heartfelt return will see Malcolm and his daughter traveling to visit Hal and Lois after the former pair insist that the family get back together for their 40th wedding anniversary celebration.
Joining Muniz, Kaczmarek, and Cranston will be Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield, who will reprise their roles as Francis and Reese, respectively. Masterson’s character is the eldest child in the Wilkerson household who was at military school for much of the original series, while Berfield’s Reese was Malcolm’s tough and cool older brother. Unfortunately for die-hard fans, Erik Sullivan decided not to reprise his role as younger brother Dewey, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark stepping into the character’s shoes instead.
What To Expect From the ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival
We know the plot for the series involves a family reunion of sorts, but what else can we expect from Disney+’s take on the Wilkerson family nearly 20 years after the original show’s ending? Well, according to Cranston, it’s going to pull on some heartstrings. The award winning actor previously teased that the production was “funny” and “heartfelt” with “some really fun, terrific ideas.” He also hinted at “a different dynamic” between the family, but alluded to Hal and Lois being the same as they’ve always been.
