What might be the biggest superhero movie of the year just got an exciting new look. USA Today has unveiled a new image of David Corenswet’s Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane in Superman, which is due in theaters on July 11. The film, which was written and directed by James Gunn, will introduce the world to the new Man of Steel, who will be taking over the role from Henry Cavill. Brosnahan also assumes the role of Lois Lane from Amy Adams. Other notable names who will star in the film are Nicholas Hoult and Isabela Merced. The former will take on the feature villain role of Lex Luthor, and the latter has been set to play Kendra Saunders, aka Hawkgirl.
James Gunn’s Superman will go up against some major competition this summer in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but there is a chance it could finish its theatrical run as a higher-grossing movie. While Marvel certainly has a more proven track record when it comes to box office success, there have still been plenty of misses lately that show the studio might not have the same juice it once did. It’s also impossible to understate the popularity of Superman, who may not be on the same level as Batman or Spider-Man, but can still safely be considered one of the most recognizable superheroes ever. If Superman premieres to rave reviews that paint it as worthy of kicking off a new era of stories for DC, and The Fantastic Four is met with divisive reception, it wouldn’t be stunning to see Superman out-earn First Steps.
What DCU Projects Are Coming After ‘Superman’?
Several DCU projects are coming after Superman, regardless of how the film performs at the box office. The first is Peacemaker Season 2, which will premiere on Max on August 21 and return John Cena to his iconic role of Christopher Smith. The only other DCU projects with concrete release dates are Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Clayface. The former will be released on June 26, 2026, and the latter is coming on September 11, 2026. Lanterns, the upcoming Max series starring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, is also currently in production, and while it is expected to premiere sometime next year, it still does not have an official release date.
