What might be the next project from Conclave director Edward Berger just took a huge step forward. Deadline is reporting that Berger is teaming up with Brad Pitt for The Riders, a new film from A24 that’s based on the popular novel by Tim Winton. David Kajganich has been tapped to write the screenplay. The novel follows Fred Scully (Pitt), a man who lands in Ireland with his wife and daughter on a mystical whim to buy an old farmhouse. His wife, Jennifer, and their daughter, Billie, return to Australia, but only Billie comes back to Ireland with no explanation. It’s here that Scully’s life begins to fall apart as he grapples with the sudden and unexpected loss of his wife. Additional casting for the film is ongoing.
Brad Pitt is on something of a hot streak lately. His next film, F1, is due in theaters on June 27, and it comes fromTop Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski. The film promises to deliver a racing experience drenched in realism that will have audiences on the edge of their seat. It was also reported not long ago that Pitt would star in a sequel to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, reprising his Oscar-winning role as Cliff Booth. However, Quentin Tarantino will not return to direct the sequel and will instead be replaced by David Fincher. The film will likely feature Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Rick Dalton, in a small role, if at all. Pitt will also team up with A Working Man director David Ayer for Heart of the Beast, which is the same film keeping Ayer from returning to direct The Beekeeper 2.
‘Conclave’ Is Dominating Streaming Charts
After a successful run in theaters, Conclave began streaming on Peacock before it won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. However, the film departed Peacock at the start of April, and it wasn’t until last week that it made its return to streaming thanks to Prime Video. The streamer has its hand in multiple pockets, as Paramount’s Gladiator II also debuted on the platform at the same time as Conclave. Both movies have found success streaming on Prime Video since their debut, with each earning spots in the top five along with Ben Affleck’s The Accountant.
The Riders will begin production next year and shoot in multiple locations throughout Europe.
