‘The Life of Chuck’: Upcoming Stephen King Adaptation Gets a New Image!! Check It Out!!

Although her role as Janice Haliday in Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck will involve plenty of dancing, the latest still released of Annalise Basso looks more serious than carefree. In it, Basso’s Janice stands opposite Tom Hiddleston’s titular character, Chuck Krantz, and the pair appears to be embroiled in a serious conversation. Although we can’t tell what they’re chatting about, it looks like Janice’s words are leaving a lasting mark on Chuck and vice versa, with each character deeply connected and attentive to what the other is saying.

The Life of Chuck will see its filmmaker, Flanagan, move away from his typical vein of horror and step into something else — something more existential yet still topped with a twist of the supernatural. It’s also a change for author Stephen King, who wrote the short story on which Flanagan’s production is based. The title will give audiences a new lens to view both creatives as the tale of Hiddleston’s Chuck Krantz unfolds in three parts. Working its way back from the days leading up to Chuck’s death at the age of 40, the movie will focus on the seemingly smaller events in one’s life that make the mundane magical and meaningful.

While the Loki star appears as the grown-up version of the leading character, younger versions will be played by Jacob Tremblay, Benjamin Pajak, and Cody Flanagan. Meanwhile, the film’s supporting ensemble is a celebration of the craft with names like Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, Carl Lumbly, Kate Siegel, Mia Sara, Matthew Lillard, Nick Offerman, Harvey Guillén, David Dastmalchian, Rahul Kohli, Q’orianka Kilcher, Heather Langenkamp, Samantha Sloyan, and more joining Hiddleston and Basso.

The Life of Chuck is but one of several King-based projects that Flanagan is working on at this time. Having previously worked alongside the legendary author on adaptations of favorites like Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game, the Hush filmmaker is also developing two television projects based on the novelist’s beloved books, Carrie and The Dark Tower series. Outside his work with King, Flanagan is also in charge of putting the terrifying back in The Exorcist franchise with a new movie due out next year. Meanwhile, he’ll cross over into superhero IP through the James Watkins-helmed film Clayface, for which Flanagan penned the screenplay.
