“When we set it up, it was at Paramount+. We wrote a script, and then, for whatever reason, they decided they wanted to go in a different direction. But I had a script at this point, and it’s very representative of what the series is going to be. It introduces all the characters except for one.”
However, that wasn’t the end of the road for the Warrior TV series. O’Connor and the team found another home for the show, but they still experienced similar problems:
“HBO Max then said they wanted to do it, and so we pivoted to HBO Max. And then, for whatever reason, they decided they didn’t want to do it. They were going to go in a different direction. So I need to find a home, man.”
O’Connor ended by sharing an optimistic outlook on the future for his Warrior TV series, and even revealing some plot details that paint a picture of what the show would look like:
“Excluding the movie Warrior, if there’s any project I’ve ever had that is so passionately alive in my bloodstream, it’s this TV series. So I’m hoping I find the right home for it. The DNA of the movie Warrior was two brothers on a collision course to fight each other in the Sparta tournament. So the series is called Warriors because we took that idea for two men and two women. They’re all fighters, but I hook you into their life fights outside the cage. We’re going to explore their stories as they’re on a collision course to fight each other at Sparta. So that’s the idea, and I hope we can find a home, because I so believe in this show and what it could be. There’s nothing like it on television, so hopefully someone can see what I have in my head.”
It’s unclear if Hardy or Edgerton would return to star in O’Connor’s Warrior TV series, but it’s certainly surprising to hear that a follow-up to something so successful has failed to find a home for so long. One of the biggest problems studios run into is rushing into production on things with unfinished scripts — this leads to production delays and issues, reshoots, and other various other issues that rack up the budget. But with O’Connor’s Warrior series already having a completed script that he’s happy with, it’s past time for someone to pull the trigger and move forward with the show.
Tom Hardy and Gavin O’Connor Have New Movies Out Now
While fans wait for any concrete developments on O’Connor’s Warrior TV series, both he and leading star Tom Hardy have new movies that just arrived this weekend. Hardy stars in Havoc, the bone-crunching action thriller that’s currently streaming on Netflix. The film has been received divisively among critics and audiences thus far, with the former enjoying it much more. O’Connor also delivered a sequel to his hit action movie with Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal. The Accountant 2 is now playing in theaters everywhere, and the film is poised to exceed its predecessor by almost every metric.
The Warrior TV series still does not have a home.
