‘Einstein’: Upcoming Matthew Gray Gubler Series Has Already Lost Its Co-Star!!

For various reasons, CBS decided to hold the Matthew Gray Gubler-led series, Einstein, for the 2026-2027 TV season. The show had already cast two series regulars, but production will need to go back to the casting room to look for another actor to play Detective Maddie Paris. Deadline reports that Rosa Salazar, who was to play the character, has exited the project after the delay was announced. Salazar’s departure frees her from her contractual obligations, allowing her to pursue other projects that might be of interest. The decision to end her relationship with CBS Studios, as far as Einstein is concerned, was mutual and amicable. If she had stayed on, she’d have been forced to wait until next year when the show resumes production, given that hiring for writing staff had been paused following the delay announcement.

In Einstein, Criminal Minds alum Gray Gubler plays famed physicist Albert Einstein‘s relative. “Brilliant but directionless, the great grandson of Albert Einstein spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad-boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases.” Detective Paris was described as sharp and focused, and the arrangement with Einstein brought up complicated feelings. The show was based on a German series of the same name.

CBS Still Has New Shows Premiering This Fall Despite ‘Einstein’ Being Moved

CBS still has four new shows set for fall — three spinoffs of popular CBS shows and one new comedy series. Sheriff Country is an offshoot of the Max Theriot-led firefighter drama, Fire Country. It follows Edgewater’s sheriff, Mickey Fox, who is also related to Bode’s mom. FBI: CIA is an offshoot of the Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki-led crime procedural, FBI. It follows a special team of law enforcement officers consisting of an FBI agent and a CIA agent. Tom Ellis has already been cast in a lead role. The third new series is the Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, focused on Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg). Finally, CBS ordered DMV, a workplace comedy set in the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Einstein had been ordered to series and was supposed to mark Gray Gubler‘s return to CBS after starring in Criminal Minds for fifteen seasons as Dr. Spencer Reid. The original plan was to have it on the air this fall, but given the substantial number of shows the network has on the schedule, it is speculated that the show was moved after lacking a proper spot. The move doesn’t come with all bad news because the show can now have more time to be refined and promoted. Einstein is the brainchild of the team behind Monk, Andy Breckman, and Randy Zink.
