‘On Call’ Cancelled After One Season; May Move to Another Streamer!!

Dick Wolf‘s first streaming procedural, On Call, is not returning for Season 2 on Prime Video. Deadline reports that the show starring Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente has been canceled at the global streamer after Amazon passed on another season. However, there is some good news for fans of the half-hour police drama. Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television are engaged in talks for a second season on another platform. The cancellation is a surprising development, but not entirely unforeseen given the significant time lapse between Season 1’s debut date and news of renewal or cancellation.

It is being reported that Amazon was considering a two-season renewal, but the deal came with strings attached. They wanted the two production companies to reduce the series’ premium, but that was a non-starter for them, and the two-season deal fell apart. TV economics are changing and sometimes what worked before doesn’t any longer. A new deal might be proposed, but sometimes it hurts one side more than the other. This cancellation is one of the smoothest because Amazon has agreed to revert the show’s rights to the producers if they find another home for the series. The NBC Universal-owned streaming platform Peacock is being considered as a potential home for the series.

On Call is an adrenalized and visceral police drama that follows a rookie and veteran officer duo as they go on patrol in Long Beach, California. Shot with a mixture of hand-held cameras, bodycam, and dash-cam footage to create a cinema verité effect, the innovative series explores the morality of protecting and serving a community. It stars Pretty Little Liars star Troian Bellisario and Larracuente. Guest stars include Lori Laughlin, Rich Ting, and Eriq La Salle. Despite receiving mixed reactions from critics, On Call Season 1 was at the top of the charts on Prime Video and other aggregators.

What Is the Status of Other Dick Wolf Shows?

The past few weeks have delivered a lot of news for fans of the producing titan. At CBS, Wolf‘s FBI franchise lost two shows to cancellation, but the network ordered another one. The 2025-2026 season returns with FBI and the spinoff CIA as FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted wrap up this season. All three One Chicago shows on NBC were renewed for a new season alongside Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU. Law & Order: Organized Crime‘s fate is yet to be decided. Many of these shows return with significant budget cuts, forcing some series regulars to depart from their series.
