After teasing subscribers with some first-look images, the streaming platform formerly known as Max decided to unveil the first trailer for its upcoming thriller series Task. The show stars Mark Ruffalo (All The Light We Cannot See) and Tom Pelphrey (Ozark) on opposite sides of the law. Ruffalo‘s Tom Brandis has to command a task force that needs to investigate and put an end to a series of home invasions led by Pelphrey‘s Robbie Prendergrast in Pennsylvania. HBO Max also revealed the release window for the series: we can expect to see it this September.
The trailer for Task suggests that it will be a high-stakes kind of thriller and reveals that we will follow the story from two distinct POVs. On one side, we will follow Tom and his team. He’s not really happy with the people selected for the task, so chances are that they will have their differences. Tom is also not in his best shape — the trailer hints at a possible alcohol addiction. On the other side, we will see the gang that’s performing the home invasions operate. They all wear skull masks and live a pretty normal life when they aren’t terrorizing innocent people.
The cast of Task is a star-studded one. Aside from Ruffalo and Pelphrey, it also features Emilia Jones (Cat Person), Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King), Raúl Castillo (Smile 2), Jamie McShane (1923), Sam Keeley (William Tell), Fabien Frankel (House of the Dragon), Alison Oliver (Wuthering Heights), Owen Teague (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), Raphael Sbarge (The Exorcist: Believer), Mireille Enos (Lucky Hank), and Martha Plimpton (The Regime).
What Have Mark Ruffalo And Tom Pelphrey Been Up To?
Ruffalo was recently on the big screen with Robert Pattinson (The Batman) in Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon-ho (Parasite). He was also in the Netflix miniseries All The Light We Cannot See and will be seen later this year in the threequel Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. After starring on Banshee and Ozark, Pelphrey joined Elizabeth Olsen in Love & Death, worked with Jeff Daniels in A Man In Full, and recently wrapped Season 2 of Outer Range.
Task is created by Brad Ingelsby, who previously created the HBO hit series Mare of Easttown. If his new series is anything like his previous creation, we can expect an intricate story with twists that catch us completely off guard. The story hails from a curious source: his uncle, who at one point was an ex-priest who helped the FBI solve local cases. The series creator also cited 1995’s Heat as an inspiration for the story.
HBO Max premieres Task this September. You can check out the trailer above.
