Vision Quest is among the most secretive Marvel Cinematic Universe projects in the making. Announced after WandaVision wrapped, the project is set to chronicle the adventures of White Vision, who was weaponized at the end of the series and goes off on his own. With the success of the spin-off, Agatha All Along, fans are even more excited about the Paul Bettany-led series. Series showrunner, Terry Matalas recently confirmed the shows’ timeline as well as discussed his vision for the upcoming Marvel show.
“The timeline is definitely navigated,” Matalas said carefully during his appearance on Katee Sackhoff’s The Sackhoff Show podcast. He called working on the show a “wonderful creative experience, and I think we are making something really special.” Fans have been very curious about White Vision since his first appearance, and things will pick up right where they left off in WandaVision.
“At the end of WandaVision, the original Vision was rebuilt and weaponized, and then had a moment of discovery and acceptance of who he was. Then [he] flew off… [Vision Quest] is following that character, and that character’s journey.”
‘Vision Quest’ will Elevate Cannon
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown leaps and bounds since Avengers: Endgame. With a plethora of TV series, some big-budget movies, and a behind-the-scenes creative overhaul that affected shows like Daredevil: Born Again and upcoming Ironheart–a cohesive narrative has been missing for many fans. But Matala‘s creative approach will bring some respite to fans, “There are so many different ways to tell a story that’s within canon,” he reiterated about his creative approach. Adding that the opportunity doesn’t come without challenges.
“It’s also an opportunity to, I don’t wanna say break canon, but to elevate it or make it, or maybe course correct. I like it. Usually, it gives you the opportunity to tell a more interesting story. […] Where it gets hard in cases like Star Trek or Marvel is when there’s so much of it, you want to do a thing that’s, like, a great story, but it actually has been done on a thing you didn’t even know happened. Or it’s being made at the same time.”
Vision has been a part of the MCU as long as we can remember. Bettany initially voiced Tony’s (Robert Downey Jr) AI Jarvis and physically entered the MCU with Avengers: Age of Ultron as Vision and was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. He was then resurrected by Wanda in her hex… Vision Quest will bring back Ultron (James Spader) along with Faran Tahir as Raza, the Ten Rings captain last seen in 2008’s Iron Man. It’ll be interesting to see how the creators bring all these characters full circle.
Vision Quest will drop sometime in 2026.
