We’re only a few weeks away from the epic return of one of Netflix’s bingeworthy fantasy dramas, and there’s even more exciting news for ever-devoted fans. The Sandman premieres its second and final season next month, with the episodes released in two batches as previously announced. However, that will not be all as TVLine has learned of a “bonus” episode which will be centered on Dream’s sister, Death, portrayed by Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
Divided into two parts, Season 2 of The Sandman will release its first volume, comprising six episodes, on Thursday, July 3 and Volume 2, which will consist of five episodes, on Thursday, July 24. The last episode of Volume 2 will conclude the story of Dream, played by Tom Sturridge. As for the Death-centered bonus episode, titled “The Sandman Presents: Death: The High Cost of Living,” it will begin streaming a week later, on Thursday, July 31.
According to Netflix, this delightful new chapter of The Sandman will adapt fan-favorite storylines from Neil Gaiman’s comics, including the Season of Mists, Brief Lives, The Kindly Ones, and The Sandman: Overture collections, along with beloved single-issue stories such as “Tales in the Sand,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “The Song of Orpheus,” “Thermidor,” and “The Tempest,” among others. The titles of the twelve episodes that make up The Sandman’s sophomore season have also been revealed, with Chapter 1 named “Season of Mists” and the final one titled “A Tale of Graceful Ends.”
What is ‘The Sandman’ Season 2 About?
The Sandman’s final season begins a few weeks following the events of the Season 1 finale. After more than a century away from the Dreaming, Dream has been restoring and rebuilding his kingdom. As he transforms the palace, he vows to leave the past behind and look to the future. The past, of course, has other ideas. As teased by its official synopsis, Season 2 will see a reunion between Dream and his family, who will then “face one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds.” The logline continues:
“To make amends, Dream must confront longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything. Based on the beloved award-winning DC comic series, the second season of The Sandman will tell Dream’s story arc in full to its thrilling conclusion.”
