‘The Trinity Killer’: New ‘Dexter’ Spin-Off Gets Update From Showrunner!!

Dexter’s showrunner and executive producer, Clyde Phillips, has great news about another franchise spin-off, which is centered on one of the show’s greatest villains. The Trinity Killer is that villain, portrayed by the iconic John Lithgow, who was introduced in Season 4 of the original Showtime series. Lithgow is expected to return in some capacity in the new spin-off, but it remains unclear when the show will be set since the killer murdered people for decades. Nevertheless, Phillips, who now oversees the new Dexter franchise, recently revealed the status of the Trinity Killer spin-off, giving fans hope about its progress.

During a panel at CCXP Mexico (via Reddit user TheSystolicGem), Phillips confirmed that all ten episodes of the Trinity Killer project have been written, but they have yet to be given the green light to go into production. While this may not be what fans expected to hear, it’s still promising as the project remains alive. Not to mention, the latest spin-off, Dexter: Resurrection, hasn’t premiered yet and will most likely determine whether the Trinity Killer series will be greenlit. Lithgow has also been confirmed to cameo in the Resurrection series.

What’s Next for ‘Dexter’?

Fans won’t have to wait much longer for Michael C. Hall’s return in the title role of Dexter: Resurrection. The series premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, July 11, as a sequel to the 2021 series Dexter: New Blood and the original Dexter that ran from October 1, 2006, to September 22, 2013. Starring alongside Hall as main characters in the new spin-off are Peter Dinklage, David Zayas, Jack Alcott, James Remar, Uma Thurman, Ntare Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, and Emilia Suárez. Newcomer characters are Lowell, portrayed by How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris, and Mia, played by Krysten Ritter. Eric Stonestreet will also guest star as Al, a suspected serial killer from Kansas City, for four episodes, and David Dastmalchian will appear as Gareth.

Set weeks after Dexter Morgan takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, Dexter: Resurrection will see the lead character awaken from a coma to find Harrison (Alcott) gone without a trace, as detailed by the series’ official synopsis. It continues:

Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined — and that the only way out is together.

The Trinity Killer spin-off may not be greenlit yet, but Dexter: Resurrection arrives in only a few weeks.
