‘Ballard’ Trailer Previews the Maggie Q led ‘Bosch’ Spin-Off!! Check It Out!!

Prime Video has released the official trailer and key art for Ballard, the newest spin-off in Michael Connelly’s expanding Bosch universe. Starring Maggie Q in the title role and Bosch veteran Titus Welliver returning as the iconic Harry Bosch, the 10-episode first season will debut globally on Wednesday, July 9, exclusively on Prime Video.

Set in modern-day Los Angeles, Ballard follows Detective Renée Ballard (Q) as she’s tasked with leading the LAPD’s newly formed, severely underfunded cold case division. Taking on the city’s most stubborn, unsolved crimes — from the eerie trail of a serial killer to a mystery surrounding an unidentified murder victim — Ballard is determined to bring long-overdue justice to the victims and their families. But as she digs deeper, her cases begin to expose a far more insidious threat: a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD itself.

According to Connelly himself, who handpicked Maggie Q for the lead role just as he once did Welliver, the series is “really, really good.”

I’ve seen all 10 of the episodes,” Connelly told the Los Angeles Times, clearly aware that fans still stung by Bosch: Legacy’s cancellation are eager for reassurance. “Maggie’s great. She just has this kind of defiant aspect that plays well when she’s dealing with the sexism of the department. She doesn’t step back.”

What Is ‘Ballard’ About?

The trailer wastes no time setting up Ballard’s challenges. A former robbery homicide detective reassigned to run the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case unit, Ballard must navigate institutional apathy, public pressure, and dangerous truths buried deep within the department. She’s paired with Thomas Laffont (John Carroll Lynch), a seasoned cop whose patience and principles may not always align with Ballard’s own relentless drive. But of course, the headline reunion here is Ballard and Bosch. While Harry may be retired, he’s anything but gone.

The supporting cast includes Courtney Taylor, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, Ricardo Chavira, Noah Bean, Alain Uy, and Hector Hugo.

Behind the scenes, the show carries serious pedigree. Connelly is joined by executive producers Henrik Bastin, Michael Alaimo, Kendall Sherwood, Trish Hofmann, Jet Wilkinson, and Melissa Aouate, with Jasmine Russ producing under Fabel Entertainment. Real-life LAPD detective Mitzi Roberts, the inspiration behind Renée Ballard herself, serves as a writer and executive producer, bringing lived experience directly into the scripts.

It really helps that Maggie has Mitzi Roberts,” Connelly told Entertainment Weekly. “Mitzi’s lived this stuff, and it helps when Maggie or the writers have questions or need advice. Maggie and Mitzi have really bonded.”

All episodes of Ballard premiere July 9, exclusively on Prime Video.
