After building an empire on TV with Yellowstone, 1923, and Landman, Taylor Sheridan is making a long-awaited return to the big screen — and he’s not coming alone. Deadline is reporting that that Succession standout Juliana Canfield has officially joined F.A.S.T., Sheridan’s upcoming action thriller for Warner Bros., as the female lead opposite 1923 breakout Brandon Sklenar. Sheridan wrote the script nearly a decade ago, and after years in development limbo, F.A.S.T. is finally speeding toward theaters with an official release date of April 23, 2027. The project marks a reunion for Sklenar and 1923 director Ben Richardson, who is making his feature directorial debut after acclaimed cinematography work on Beasts of the Southern Wild and The Fault in Our Stars.
Canfield is fresh off her first Tony Award nomination for Stereophonic, Broadway’s record-breaking play about a fictional ‘70s rock band and their unraveling relationships in the recording studio. Though she earned SAG Awards for her ensemble work on Succession, this role in F.A.S.T. will mark her first major lead in a studio feature — and a significant career step. Her previous film credits include The Assistant, The Neighbors’ Window, and TV appearances in Y: The Last Man, American Horror Story, and Peacock’s The Calling.
What’s the Deal With Taylor Sheridan’s ‘F.A.S.T.’?
The road to F.A.S.T. has been anything but… fast. Warner Bros. initially scooped up the script in 2018, with Chris Pratt and Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) once attached. But with a ballooning budget in the $60–$70 million range and the rise of streaming, the project was shelved. At one point, it was passed to Amazon for a potential streaming release before the rights lapsed, opening the door for a Warner Bros. Discovery revival under David Zaslav, who reportedly made the film a personal priority. The problem is, as we know, Sheridan is under an exclusive overall deal at Paramount. But in a rare case of Hollywood deal gymnastics, Paramount granted a window for Sheridan to work on F.A.S.T. — as screenwriter and producer.
“The breadth of Taylor Sheridan’s body of work is simply astounding and unparalleled in sheer excellence and consistent quality,” said Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy in a joint statement. “With the hugely talented director Ben Richardson behind the camera and the exceptional producing talents of Heyday Films and Bosque Ranch, we are thrilled to have such an incredible creative team bringing F.A.S.T. to the big screen.”
