Joel Edgerton was last seen playing a variety of Jason Dessens in the first season of Dark Matter on Apple TV+, but the next project from the star just took a major step forward. Edgerton stars alongside Kerry Condon and Felicity Jones in Train Dreams, a drama following an average man struggling to adjust to his new environment after losing his family. Not only has Netflix debuted a new image of Edgerton in Train Dreams, which can be found below, but the streamer has also announced that the film will play in select theaters starting November 21. This is an interesting step for Netflix, a studio that usually sends most of its movies straight to streaming, but it could signify a changing of the tide in the months and years to come.
Train Dreams premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and was an immediate hit. The film earned a nearly perfect 97% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes from 36 reviews. While this is subject to change, it’s also enough scores that even a string of negative reviews wouldn’t move the needle that much. The film is based on Denis Johnson’s beloved novel, and it’s set in the early 20th century in a rapidly changing America. Cliff Bentley was tapped to adapt the screenplay for the film along with Greg Kwedar, and Bentley also stepped behind the camera to direct. Edgerton has also earned an executive producing credit for his work on Train Dreams, which also stars Nathaniel Arcand, Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehl, Paul Schneider, and even William H. Macy. Will Patton is narrating the film.
