‘Reacher’ Season 4 Recasts Jay Baruchel with Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette!!

Reacher’s next case just got a whole lot more complicated — and it’s bringing in a fresh face to help crack it. Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette (HBO’s Barry) has joined the cast of Reacher Season 4 in a recasting, according to Deadline. He steps into the role of small-town cop Jacob Merrick, a character described as pivotal in the upcoming season’s adaptation of Gone Tomorrow, the 13th book in Lee Child’s long-running Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) series. Rodriguez-Marquette replaces Jay Baruchel, who was originally announced for the role just weeks ago but exited due to personal reasons. According to sources close to production, the casting was a lightning-fast turnaround: Rodriguez-Marquette was hired the same day the role became available and flown to set just days later.

In Gone Tomorrow, Reacher finds himself entangled in a deadly web after a tragic encounter on a New York subway. As always, it starts small and spirals into a global conspiracy involving covert ops, high-level political corruption, and an unnervingly plausible deep state. Merrick, the small-town officer played by Rodriguez-Marquette, becomes one of Reacher’s unlikely allies as the case escalates. It’s a meaty role — appropriate given Reacher’s physique — and the kind of morally murky, punchy territory Reacher thrives on.

As for Rodriguez-Marquette, his casting marks a major step into the action-thriller spotlight. Best known for his role on Barry, he’s also appeared in Mozart in the Jungle, The Fugitive, and indie horror Grind. His film credits include I Hate the Man in My Basement and Fear.

Who Else Is In ‘Reacher’ Season 4?

Rodriguez-Marquette joins an already bulging list of newcomers for Season 4, including Sydelle Noel (GLOW) as Philadelphia detective Tamara Green, Kevin Corrigan as her partner Detective Docherty, Anggun and Agnez Mo, plus Kevin Weisman, Marc Blucas, and Kathleen Robertson in recurring roles. Weisman will play Russell Plum, a journalist on the trail of a suspected CIA Black Site. Blucas and Robertson portray Congressman John Samson and his wife Elsbeth — a power couple with secrets of their own.

Season 3 of Reacher, which premiered in February 2025, became the most-watched returning series in Prime Video’s history. Adapting Persuader, that season saw Reacher operating off the grid and pulling no punches. Season 4 looks set to follow that trend — this time with the hero in full lone-wolf mode again, but up against an even more dangerous breed of villain.

Reacher Season 4 is in production now.
