‘Murderbot’ Renewed for Season 2!!

The first season of Alexander Skarsgård’s bloodthirsty sci-fi series will wrap up tomorrow after airing its season finale, but Apple TV+ has already decided the fate of the show. The streamer has officially confirmed that Murderbot has been renewed and will move forward with a second season. This comes after the first season of Murderbot earned the fabled “certified fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, currently sitting at a nearly perfect 96% at the time of writing. Audiences have also been hot on the series, rating it a solid 80% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. The show has been hailed as the “best new comedy of 2025” and “diabolically funny,” further cementing Apple’s status as the premier home for sci-fi TV. The streamer has also released seasons of Silo, Foundation, Severance, and more in the last few years.

Murderbot Season 1 is based on the first novella in Martha Wells’ Hugo and Nebula Award-winning series, and it follows a self-hacking security construct who is horrified by human emotion yet simultaneously drawn to it. Murderbot is forced to hide its free will to fit in, but all it really wants to do is watch futuristic soap operas and discover its place in the universe, not go on dangerous missions. In addition to Skarsgård in the lead role, Murderbot also stars Noma Dumezweni (Presumed Innocent), David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad), Sabrina Wu (Joy Ride), Akshay Khanna (Critical Incident), Tattiawna Jones (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Tamara Podemski (Outer Range). The show is created by the Weitz brothers, Chris and Paul, who write, direct, and executive produce all 10 episodes. David S. Goyer, who created Foundation for Apple TV+, also serves as executive producer of the series.

When Is ‘Murderbot’ Season 2 Coming Out?

Apple TV+ did not announce anywhere in its renewal report when it plans to release Murderbot Season 2, which will likely depend on a few factors. The show has plenty of stars with busy schedules to work around, and it will also take some time for the Weitz brothers to write the second season and get it ready for shooting. Assuming work on Murderbot Season 2 begins soon, it will likely be later this year or early next year before everything is ready to resume production. This leaves the most likely windows for release in either late 2026 or even early 2027.

Murderbot will receive another season.
