‘Wishful Thinking’: Lewis Pullman & Maya Hawke to Star in New Supernatural Rom-Com!!

Lewis Pullman and Maya Hawke, both members of Hollywood royalty, are joining forces for a new romantic comedy with a surreal twist. They’ll play a pair of lovers buffeted by forces beyond their control in Wishful Thinking. The film will mark the feature directorial and writing debut of Graham Parkes.

Variety reports that Pullman and Hawke will play a couple with a troubled relationship whose volatility isn’t confined to the emotional realm. In fact, their turbulent romance is having bizarre physical effects on the world around them. With the world in turmoil, they’ll have to decide whether their love is worth fighting for, or if they should break it off for the good of reality. It’ll be the directorial debut for Parkes, a video game designer who co-created the acclaimed 2021 adventure game Before Your Eyes, and is working on its follow-up, Goodnight Universe, which will be released later this year.

Who Are Lewis Pullman and Maya Hawke?

Pullman, the son of Bill Pullman, made his film debut in his father’s film The Ballad of Lefty Brown, and gained prominence with supporting roles in Bad Times at the El Royale and Top Gun: Maverick. He earned an Emmy nomination for starring alongside Brie Larson in Apple TV+‘s Lessons in Chemistry. This summer, he earned praise for playing mild-mannered Bob Reynolds and his superpowered alter egos the Sentry and the Void in the MCU actioner Thunderbolts*; he’ll reprise the role next year in Avengers: Doomsday. He will also star with Amanda Seyfried in Brady Corbet‘s historical musical Ann Lee, with Sally Field in the Netflix adaptation of the bestseller Remarkably Bright Creatures, and alongside his father in the long-gestating science fiction spoof sequel Spaceballs 2. Hawke, the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, was one of the many up-and-coming stars who populated Quentin Tarantino‘s Manson Family in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and subsequently broke out as sarcastic ice cream parlor employee Robin in the third season of Stranger Things, a role she’ll reprise for the last time in the show’s upcoming fifth season. She’s next set to star in Wilder and Me opposite Christoph Waltz‘s Billy Wilder; Lucia, a biopic about James Joyce‘s daughter; and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, in which she’ll play a younger incarnation of Amanda Plummer‘s Wiress.

Matt Smith and Dan Gedman will oversee Wishful Thinking for Highway 10, which also serves as financier. Kara Durrett will produce for Pinky Promise. Pullman is producing the film via his new company Buckwild.

Wishful Thinking is in development; no additional casting or release date have yet been announced.
