‘Happy Hours’: ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Co-Stars Katie Holmes & Joshua Jackson to Reunite for New Trilogy!!

If you’ve been hoping for a Dawson’s Creek reunion, you don’t have to wait for your life to be over. Stars Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson are reuniting for Happy Hours, a new trilogy of feature films that Holmes will be directing and writing. The two starred together for six seasons on the WB teen drama. Holmes and Jackson were spotted filming the first part of the trilogy in New York City this week.

Deadline reports that the trilogy of films will star Holmes and Jackson in a character-driven dramedy about a couple navigating their careers, their families, and their love life amidst the challenges and rewards of life. The films are also set to star Joe Tippett (Mare of Easttown), John McGinty (New Amsterdam), Donald Webber Jr. (Severance), and Nathan Darrow (Gotham). This won’t be Holmes‘ first stint behind the camera: she has directed and starred in a number of indie features, including All We Had, Alone Together, and Rare Objects. Meanwhile, this will be Jackson‘s first project since his medical drama Doctor Odyssey was scuttled after a single season.

What Was ‘Dawson’s Creek’ About?

Debuting in 1998, Dawson’s Creek centered around the lives of four teenagers in small-town Capeside, Massachusetts: aspiring filmmaker Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek), troubled tomboy Joey Potter (Holmes), rich girl with a dark past Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams), and wisecracking slacker Pacey Witter (Jackson). The series followed its characters through high school and beyond, ending with its sixth-season finale in 2003. The show was created by Scream‘s Kevin Williamson, and featured much of Williamson‘s trademark verbose, reference-laden dialogue; thanks to its writing and charismatic cast members, the show attracted a devoted following over its six years on the air, becoming a flagship show for the then-new WB network. However, it also garnered a great deal of controversy over its content, which cultural critics found extremely racy.

Happy Hours will be produced by Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler for Maven Screen Media, and Peter Coleman and Paula P. Manzanedo for Bond Street Station. Annie Herndon will oversee for STX Films, with Jenny Halper, Sophia Pedlow, and Jackie Donohoe overseeing for Maven.

Happy Hours is now in production in New York City; the second and third films of the trilogy are in development.
