Like a snowball down a mountain, or a carnival balloon, production on The Thomas Crown Affair keeps spinning, and it already has its new female lead. Andor‘s Adria Arjona has joined the heist thriller remake alongside Michael B. Jordan. She comes in to replace Taylor Russell, who departed the production over creative issues. The Amazon MGM Studios remake is set to break into theaters on March 5, 2027.
Variety reports that as soon as Russell left the project, an immediate search began for a new lead, and found one in Arjona. She fills the shoes of Faye Dunaway and Rene Russo, who played Crown’s foe-turned-lover in the 1968 Steve McQueen and 1999 Pierce Brosnan versions of the film; they both center around a man who becomes a high-stakes thief to alleviate his boredom with his wealthy lifestyle. Arjona joins an already star-studded cast that includes Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient Express), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Danai Gurira (Black Panther), Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones), and Aiysha Hart (A Discovery of Witches).
What Is Adria Arjona Starring In Now?
Arjona is coming off a number of successful projects, including the second season of the acclaimed Star Wars series Andor and the Richard Linklater crime comedy Hit Man. Coming up next for her is the black comedy Splitsville, which she stars in opposite Dakota Johnson; it will hit theaters this August. She is also headlining Adam Wingard‘s new monster movie Onslaught, alongside Dan Stevens, and the science fiction comedy Alpha Gang, with Cate Blanchett. She is also set to star in the crime drama series Criminal, an adaptation of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips‘ popular crime comics series, with Charlie Hunnam. She has also been touted as a possible star of the new DC Comics Wonder Woman movie; DC head honcho James Gunn, who worked with her in 2016’s The Belko Experiment, stated that “she’d be a great Wonder Woman,” while remaining non-committal.
In addition to starring in The Thomas Crown Affair, Jordan is also directing, making it his sophomore directorial effort after Creed III. Drew Pearce (The Fall Guy) wrote the script; a previous draft was penned by Wes Tooke (Midway) and Justin Britt-Gibson (The Strain). Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo are producing the picture for Outlier Society, with Charles Roven via Atlas Entertainment, Patrick McCormick, and Marc Toberoff via Toberoff Productions. Alan Trustman, who wrote the 1968 original, executive produces.
The Thomas Crown Affair will be released in theaters on March 5, 2027.
