Ryan Reynolds may have just spoiled Deadpool’s MCU future with a cryptic social media post that has fans buzzing. Reynolds took to his social media late Monday night/early Tuesday morning and posted a picture of the Avengers logo on Instagram, which sent fans into a frenzy about his role in the upcoming Avengers movie, Doomsday. When the cast for Doomsday was announced earlier this year, Reynolds’ name was among those missing from the call sheet, which came as a surprise considering the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s unclear if Reynolds is trying to throw fans off the scent or just stir up some trouble, but after his third (and possibly final) Deadpool solo movie grossed over $1.3 billion globally, it would be surprising not to see him utilized somehow in the MCU going forward.
Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine co-star, Hugh Jackman, was also asked about his status in Avengers: Doomsday earlier this year, but he played coy, citing that he had “nothing to add.” Fans had been calling for Reynolds’ Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine to team up in a movie together for years, and 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine delivered all the laughs and action that everyone was hoping for. It has been confirmed that other Fox X-Men stars like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming will reprise their respective mutant roles in Avengers: Doomsday, which would make it all the more shocking to not see Deadpool and Wolverine used in some way. The MCU also has a solo X-Men movie in the works, with Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*) attached to direct, though it lacks a spot on the release calendar.
Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Alien’ Replacement Is Coming to Streaming
One year after he first suited up as Wade Wilson, Ryan Reynolds starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal (Presumed Innocent) and Rebecca Ferguson (Silo) in Life, the 2017 sci-fi epic that’s been dominating VOD charts overseas. When Collider reported on the film’s VOD success last week, we speculated that the film would likely be coming to streaming sometime soon, and our prediction has come to pass. Paramount+ has announced that Life will begin streaming on the platform on September 1. Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese wrote the script for Life, and Daniel Espinosa directed the film. Espinosa infamously directed Morbius three years ago.
