Days after it was reported that WWE veteran Dave Bautista would play the feature villain opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House 2, the film has added yet another star to its cast. Amazon MGM has confirmed that Leila George, best known for her role as Jaine in Animal Kingdom, has joined the cast of Road House 2. Details about her character and the plot are being kept under wraps, but she’s also known for her work in American Love Story and Disclaimer. Production on Road House 2 is scheduled to begin this September, and with new cast members joining the fold weekly, it sounds like the film is progressing at a steady rate. Gyllenhaal’s Road House, which also stars Daniela Melchior and Conor McGregor, is currently streaming on Prime Video.
While the cast has been steadily growing the last few weeks, there has been some turmoil in the director’s chair for Road House 2. It was reported months ago that Liman was not returning to direct the sequel, and he would instead be replaced by legendary action director Guy Ritchie. However, Ritchie didn’t last long on the film — back in July, it was announced that Ritchie had exited the film. It wasn’t reported at the time whether it was due to scheduling conflicts or creative differences. Ritchie has since been replaced as director by Ilya Naishuller, who directed Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody before also recently helming Prime Video’s Heads of State movie, starring Idris Elba and John Cena. Will Beall is taking over as the screenwriter for Road House 2 after Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry penned the first Gyllenhaal-led reboot.
Jake Gyllenhaal Is in the Middle of Filming Another Movie
Before Jake Gyllenhaal can begin filming Road House 2, he has to conclude shooting scenes for M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain, which has also recruited The Pitt’s Tracy Ifeachor for a role. Remain recently began filming ahead of its October 23, 2026, release date, and it may be the only thing Road House 2 is waiting on before it rolls cameras. Gyllenhaal has also been set for roles in The Bride and In The Grey, but both have already wrapped filming. Gyllenhaal was also attached to star in a Division movie, but after it paused filming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has seemingly been disregarded with no updates.
Road House 2 does not yet have an official release date, but it’s scheduled to begin production next month.
