The Batman Part II writer Mattson Tomlin has just delivered the most exciting update on the highly anticipated sequel yet. Tomlin is writing the script for the Robert Pattinson-led Batman sequel, along with director Matt Reeves. The duo recently turned their latest draft into DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, who were quite pleased with what they read. The film is scheduled to begin production at the start of next year, but it won’t be released for over two years, currently slated to premiere on October 1, 2027.
On his personal X account, a fan asked Tomlin if he felt The Batman Part II had the potential to be even better than The Batman. Tomlin replied, “The only worthwhile reason to make a sequel to anything is because there’s a story burning to be told that you believe can top what came before.” This is certainly exciting to hear, especially considering Tomlin didn’t have any hand in writing the script for the first movie. It would have been just as easy for him to give a nonchalant answer and just say “we’re working hard, and we feel good about where we’re at,” but this latest update is certainly not that.
Little is known about the plot of The Batman Part II at this time, as the powers that be at DC have been strict about keeping everything about the film under wraps. Gunn’s priorities as the new head of the studio seem to be nailing down a good script before even talking about starting production, which is likely why The Batman Part II has been delayed so far out, more than five years after the original.
