‘The Beast In Me’: First Teaser Finds Claire Danes, Matthew Rhys in Netflix’s New Thriller Series!! Check It Out!!

Emmy winner Matthew Rhys has been a famed investigator in Perry Mason and a spy in The Americans, but in November, he’s about to become the central subject of a very dark mystery in The Beast in Me. Netflix released the first teaser for the upcoming mystery thriller series, setting up all the shady dealings and uneasy circumstances surrounding him after he purchases a house in a new neighborhood. There to chase his demons and unravel his secrets is a reclusive author, played by Homeland star Claire Danes, seeking inspiration for her next novel. As the eight-episode story unfolds, though, the potential danger for her only continues to ramp up as she gets closer to the truth.

Created by The X-Files alum Gabe Rotter, The Beast in Me centers on Aggie Wiggs (Danes), an acclaimed writer who has largely retreated from public life following the death of her young son. The tragedy leaves her as a shell of her former self, unable to pick up the pen until Rhys‘s Nile Jarvis moves in next door. Nile has plenty of suspicions around him as a famed and feared real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s mysterious disappearance. Both horrified and intrigued, Aggie is drawn to him, eager to find the truth behind the man for her next book while avoiding confronting her own issues and entering a cat-and-mouse game with deadly consequences.

Rhys has already been busy on-screen in 2025, co-starring with Rosamund Pike in the psychological thriller Hallow Road and leading the Agatha Christie series Towards Zero. For Danes, however, The Beast in Me marks her first appearance on television or film since Steven Soderbergh‘s starry 2023 ensemble thriller series Full Circle. It also reunites her with a familiar face in Homeland‘s Howard Gordon, who will once again be serving as showrunner and writer. The two stars will be joined by The Hunting WivesBrittany Snow and Parks and Recreation‘s Natalie Morales, with a stacked lineup of guests including Jonathan Banks, David Lyons, Tim Guinee, Hettienne Park, Deidre O’Connell, Aleyse Shannon, Will Brill, Kate Burton, Bill Irwin, Amir Arison, and Julie Ann Emery.

‘The Beast in Me’ Traveled a Long Road to the Screen

When the mystery thriller arrives on Netflix, it’ll bring an end to a long journey for Rotter and Danes, who have been attached to The Beast in Me for over six years. Since then, the series has assembled a star-studded slate of producers, including American Crime Story‘s Daniel Pearle, alongside Conan O’Brien, Jeff Ross, and David Kissinger from Conaco, Caroline Baron, and Jodie Foster, with Antonio Campos tapped as an executive producer in addition to directing. Rhys told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year that, during the auditioning process, he believed he wasn’t going to be the right fit to take on the more megalomaniacal role of Nile, but Gordon believed his typical charm worked well to make the character even scarier. “He brought something else to it,” the showrunner explained. “He’s so charming and funny and charismatic. But he is scary.

The Beast in Me releases all eight episodes on Netflix on November 13. Check out the teaser in the player above.
