Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House 2 just got a massive update as the start of production gets closer by the day. News broke this morning that Cross star Aldis Hodge will join Gyllenhaal in the sequel to the 2024 action vehicle. Dave Bautista and Leila George have also been cast in the film, which still does not have an official premiere date. In addition to his role as Detective Alex Cross in the hit Prime Video series, Hodge is also known for starring as Hawkman opposite Pierce Brosnan and Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam. He even starred in Bruce Willis’ Die Hard with a Vengeance.
Details about Hodge’s character are being kept under wraps, as is the plot for the action sequel. Will Beall is writing the script for the film with Ilya Naishuller directing. Naishuller follows in the footsteps of Doug Liman, who directed the first movie. Action savant Guy Ritchie was briefly attached to direct Road House 2 for a few weeks, but he departed the project and was replaced by Naishuller. It’s unclear if his leaving was schedule-related or due to creative differences. Naishuller is best known for his work directing Nobody, the John Wick dupe starring Bob Odenkirk.
Gyllenhaal is reprising his role as Dalton in the sequel, and while details about George’s role are also being kept under wraps, Bautista is expected to play an antagonist in the film. News of Bautista’s involvement in Road House 2 came on the same day it was reported that he had also joined Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot as a villain. 2024’s Road House is a remake of the classic Patrick Swayze movie of the same name, and it follows an ex-UFC fighter who lands a job as a bouncer at a Florida bar.
Jake Gyllenhaal Is Booked and Busy in the Next Few Years
It’s hard to speculate about when Road House 2 could begin filming, largely due to the volume of projects Gyllenhaal has in the works. He’s in line to star in Remain, the next film from M. Night Shyamalan, and he’ll also be seen next year starring in The Bride, the monster horror film from his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal is also attached to star in In the Grey, the actioner from director Guy Ritchie that’s been delayed several times but is expected to be released sometime next year.
