‘TYGO’: Netflix Sets South Korean ‘Extraction’ Spin-Off with Lee Jin-uk, Lisa & Don Lee!!

The Extraction franchise is officially going K-POP! Netflix has confirmed that a Korean spin-off titled TYGO is officially in development. Squid Game’s Lee Jin-uk, BLACKPINK singer Lisa and Don Lee, will star. TYGO will be helmed by Lee Sang Yong, director of The Outlaws 2, and written by Cha Woo Jin. Big Punch Pictures, B&C, and Nova Film are the companies in charge of producing. Neither plot details for the feature nor its full blown connection to the Extraction universe have been revealed; however, we know that it follows the character, Ma Dong-seok, who “appears as a mercenary,” embarking on a dangerous mission “to rescue a kidnapped colleague.”

TYGO introduces audiences to Tygo, a former child soldier turned mercenary who launches a revenge mission through Korea’s criminal underworld after everything goes sideways. The film promises the signature Extraction blend of bone-breaking action and wounded-soul drama, but infused with South Korea’s cinematic style and choreography. For Don Lee, this is a long-time passion project:

“I’m thrilled that this project, which I’ve been developing for years with AGBO, is finally moving into production. TYGO brings a distinctly Korean identity into the global Extraction universe. We can’t wait to unleash its explosive energy on audiences worldwide.”

What Is ‘TYGO’ About?

Fresh off The White Lotus Season 3, Lisa steps into her first major film role — and the K-Pop icon sounds fired up:

“I’m so honored to be a part of this project and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such incredible actors. Being in an action movie has always been a dream of mine, so for my film debut to be such an exciting project feels very special.”

Actor Lee Jin-uk — who made his international mark in Squid Game — praised the chance to join Netflix’s biggest action saga:

“As a fan of the Extraction franchise, it’s a great honor for me to join this universe. I’m especially excited and grateful to be working with Don, whom I’ve always admired, and with Lisa as well. I’ll do my very best to present a film that lives up to your expectations.”

Extraction producers Anthony and Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Albert J. Kim for AGBO will oversee the production. Russo-Otstot summed up what Netflix is betting on:

“We’re thrilled to explore the world of Extraction through a South Korean lens… TYGO marks our ninth collaboration and reflects our shared commitment to bold, global storytelling.
