Netflix has officially released a new poster for the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, showing the first look at a beloved animated character. The new poster shows the image of Toph, Aang’s earthbending teacher, who will join the gang in Season 2. Toph Beifong will be portrayed by Miya Cech in Avatar: The Last Airbender Seasons 2 and 3, who joins previously cast stars such as Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko. Netflix also confirmed that the long-awaited second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender will premiere before the end of 2026.
Fans have plenty to look forward to with Toph joining the action in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2. As Aang’s new earthbending teacher, she uses a much more rugged teaching style than Katara. Though Aang didn’t learn much waterbending in Season 1, so he’ll have his work cut out for him in Season 2. Toph also routinely butts heads with Katara, but it doesn’t take the two long to become friends. She even uses her blindness to her advantage, possessing extreme awareness of her surroundings that makes her one of the most powerful benders in the show.
The first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender was mostly a success, certainly more so than the previous attempt to bring the show into live-action. M. Night Shyamalan tried (and failed) with a maligned 2010 film that disregarded the source material entirely, and it’s still viewed to this day as one of the worst adaptations ever. Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender certainly has some hurdles to overcome, but it’s heading in the right direction.
‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Isn’t Stopping at Season 2
Netflix renewed Avatar: The Last Airbender for Seasons 2 and 3, meaning that it will have the chance to tell the same story of the three-season animated series. Seasons 2 and 3 were filmed back-to-back, and Season 3 has already wrapped filming, meaning the wait for the third season won’t be nearly as long as the second. It also allows the streamer to tell the story without the actors aging out of the characters, a problem that Stranger Things has been combating for 10 years now. Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3 will likely debut in 2027.
