Next year, Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde are getting The Invite… and they may be surprised at what they find. They’re part of a first look at the new comedy, which Wilde also stars in. The Invite will premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. In the new image, Rogen and Wilde play a married couple who’ve been having some relationship problems, and their latest fight may be the last straw. Unfortunately, tonight also happens to be the night they’ve invited their sexually uninhibited upstairs neighbors (Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz) to dinner.
In addition to starring in the film, Wilde also directs: it’s her third film, after the teen comedy Booksmart and the thriller Don’t Worry Darling. The film’s script was penned by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack; the pair previously collaborated on Toy Story 4. It is a remake of the 2020 Spanish comedy The People Upstairs, which was directed and written by Cesc Gay, who adapted his own stage play.
What Can the Stars of ‘The Invite’ Be Seen in Next?

Rogen is set for new seasons of both of his hit Apple TV shows: the buddy comedy Platonic and the Hollywood satire The Studio. He’s also lent his voice to a new adaptation of Animal Farm, directed by Andy Serkis. Next year, he’ll star in The Wrong Girls, a stoner comedy that also stars Kristen Stewart. Wilde has another film debuting at Sundance: I Want Your Sex, a new erotic thriller from Gregg Araki. She’s also filming Tony Gilroy‘s Behemoth! with Pedro Pascal. Cruz has a busy dance card in the near future; she’ll star in Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s revisionist horror film The Bride! next year, as well as the new Johnny Depp action film Day Drinker and the Spanish drama The Black Ball. She’s also set to star alongside husband Javier Bardem in the psychological thriller Bunker. Norton, meanwhile, can currently be heard as one of the many luminaries lending his voice to Ken Burns‘ documentary series The American Revolution.
The Invite went through a number of creative changes before it made its way to Park City, Utah. The film was originally going to be helmed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, the married directorial duo behind Little Miss Sunshine. That incarnation of the film was to star Amy Adams, Paul Rudd, and Tessa Thompson, but underwent a creative overhaul that resulted in Wilde directing and starring in the film, and a totally new cast.
The Invite will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, which will run from January 22 to February 1, 2026.
