‘The Wasp Woman’: Amy Sedaris to Lead Horror Comedy Remake!!

Comedy legend Amy Sedaris is set to star in a buzzy new horror comedy. She’ll play the lead in a remake of the 1959 Roger Corman classic The Wasp Woman. The film will be written and directed by Paul Dinello, a longtime collaborator of Sedaris‘ who co-created the cult classic sitcom Strangers With Candy with her.

What Is ‘The Wasp Woman’ About?

The Wasp Woman stars Susan Cabot (The Duel at Silver Creek), the founder of a cosmetics empire; as the company’s top spokes-model, she finds that sales are beginning to slip as she ages. Desperate to restore her youthful appearance, she hires mad scientist Dr. Eric Zinthrop (Michael Mark, Frankenstein), who’s been attempting to reverse the aging process using wasp enzymes. She tries his new serum…and when that proves too slow, breaks into his lab and takes a mega-dose. This has the desired effect, making her lose twenty years in an instant. However, it also has the very much undesired side effect of periodically turning her into a murderous insect monster who preys on humans. A drive-in theater staple, the film became a cult classic after repeated airings on TV. Corman‘s production company remade the film in 1995 for Showtime; it was directed by Jim Wynorski (Chopping Mall) and starred Jennifer Rubin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors) as the mogul-turned-monster.

The Wasp Woman director Dinello is currently a writer and supervising producer on The Late Show for Stephen Colbert, another longtime collaborator. The film will be produced by Mark Roberts, Jordan Fields of Radial Entertainment, Meyer Shwarzstein of Another Brainy Idea, and Michael Richter of A Major Production.

The Wasp Woman is in development.
