Disney has released the first official trailer for its Malcolm in the Middle reunion/revival special, Life’s Still Unfair, which will air on April 10. The show will consist of four new episodes, and it will return stars such as Frankie Muniz and even Bryan Cranston to their roles as Malcolm and Hal. The new revival series will follow a grown-up Malcolm (Muniz) as he and his new daughter (Keeley Karsten) reunite with his family after they’ve hidden from them for over 10 years. Disney and Hulu promise more laughs and emotional moments in the four new episodes of Malcolm in the Middle.
In the new trailer, which can be found below, Malcolm talks about how his life has been fantastic in the years away from his family. The only reason he’s even back in his parents’ lives is that they demand he and his new family attend their 40th wedding anniversary party, which is sure to be a disaster. Other than Cranston and Muniz, original cast members from Malcolm in the Middle returning for the Life’s Still Unfair revival special include Chris Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Emy Coligado. Caleb Ellsworth-Clarke has stepped into the role of Dewey, taking over from Erik Per Sullivan.
In the years since Malcolm in the Middle went off the air, Bryan Cranston has had a wildly successful television career, largely thanks to his role as Walter White in Breaking Bad, the AMC series from creator Vince Gilligan (Pluribus). After picking up several Emmy nominations for his performances in Malcolm in the Middle, Cranston landed four Emmy wins for his work in Breaking Bad, and he even picked up another win recently for his work in The Studio.
Will There Be a Season 2 of ‘Life’s Still Unfair’?
Disney and Hulu have yet to decide the fate of Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, and this likely won’t be announced until the show is out and the studios have a chance to examine viewership data. However, given that it’s only four episodes, most signs point to this being a one-tie outing and not the first chapter in a line of new stories. Still, with the original cast and crew back on board, only time will tell if they can recreate the magic of the original.
