Sean Bean has not so quietly become one of the biggest champions of the fantasy genre in the last 25 years. He is one of the brightest spots in the first Lord of the Rings movie from Peter Jackson, The Fellowship of the Ring, but he was killed off in the first movie and did not return for either sequel. Bean later returned to the world of fantasy blockbusters by playing Ned Stark in the first season of Game of Thrones, but his death at the end of Season 1 served as a reminder that the HBO show would get rid of any character at any time. Bean is also famous for playing Odysseus in the 2004 historical epic, Troy, which stars Brad Pitt.
Bean’s most recent fantasy/historical adventure comes in the form of Robin Hood, the MGM+ remake of the classic tale that’s been brought to life dozens of times on the big and small screen. Kevin Costner played the famous archer in the early 90s before Russell Crowe took up the mantle in the 2010 film of the same name, directed by Ridley Scott. Bean stars as the Sheriff of Nottingham in MGM+’s series, which also stars Jack Patten as Robin Hood. The Season 1 finale of Robin Hood aired at the end of last year, and after months of the show hanging in the balance, MGM+ has announced that the series has been renewed for a second season. Production on Season 2 is expected to kick off this summer, and while an official release date has not been announced, it’s expected to return sometime next year.
What Will ‘Robin Hood’ Season 2 Be About?
During an interview with Collider last year to discuss the Robin Hood Season 1 finale, co-creator John Glenn revealed that there will be a time jump between Seasons 1 and 2. “There’s growth that’s already taking place between the seasons, the time, of course, but then there’s greater growth in the storylines and the characters, individual stories throughout Season 2.” Glenn also addressed the love triangle with Ralph, Rob, and Marian, confirming that “the love triangle is really more in service of the character of Ralph than anything. It’s really about her growth and her evolution as a character who is in hiding, and finding and opening up and unlocking her femininity.”
