HBO seems to be already looking beyond its upcoming Harry Potter series, with early movement underway on what comes next. A new update from the network’s leadership offers a glimpse into how quickly the story may continue after its debut.
Casey Bloys on Harry Potter Season 2 status
HBO chairman Casey Bloys confirmed that writing for the second season of the Harry Potter television series is already underway, while the first season remains in production.
He told The Times of London, “Our goal is to not have a huge gap, you know, especially because the kids are growing,” adding, “It’s not going to be…annual; the show is too big and too massive. But…they’re writing…season two now.” Bloys also said the network is attempting to minimize delays between seasons despite the scale of the production.
In November 2025, the executive stated during a press conference that there would still be a break between filming cycles. He stated, “The plan is to still try and get it — I don’t know if it’s going to be like stop shooting Season 1 on Friday and start Season 2 on Monday. There’ll be a break in there, but we’re going to do whatever we can to not have a huge gap” (via Deadline).
He added that the approach is intended to accommodate both the young cast and audience expectations.
The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. Additional cast members include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
Production is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom, with Francesca Gardiner serving as showrunner and Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes.
HBO plans to adapt the series across seven seasons, with each season corresponding to one of J.K. Rowling’s novels. The production team began filming the first season in 2025 and continues work ahead of a projected 2027 release of Season 2
