‘Embassy’: Prime Video Picks Up New Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons’ Thriller Series!!

J.K. Simmons has been hard at work lending his voice to the role of Nolan in the latest season of Invincible, one which has seen him step back into a much larger role than in previous seasons. The show may be off the air for now, but it’s expected back sometime next year, with Simmons confirmed to come back and keep bringing the fight to his fellow Viltrumites as Nolan. Simmons, an Academy Award winner for his performance in Whiplash, is always looking to take on challenging new roles, though. Last year, around this time, he was seen reprising his role as Ray King in a sequel to The Accountant, which co-starred Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal. This came not long after he had a key role in Clint Eastwood’s final movie, Juror #2, which was denied a wide theatrical release despite immaculate reviews.

Simmons has a few exciting projects in the works, but few are gaining as much steam as his new crime thriller TV series, Embassy. News broke on April 21 that, after a lengthy bidding war to secure the rights to air Embassy, Amazon has officially come out on top, meaning the show will land on Prime Video once it’s ready to be released. It is still unclear exactly when this will be, though. Included in Amazon’s acquisition report was the news that production on the series is now underway, so it will likely be released sometime next year. The series is shaping up to be the perfect mash-up of Reacher and Zero Dark Thirty for fans who love high-stakes, pulse-pounding military conspiracy thrillers.

What Is ‘Embassy’ About?

Amazon released an official synopsis of Embassy, which reads as follows:

“Embassy follows Layla (Anna Kendrick), a sharp and resourceful American diplomat who faces an impossible choice to protect the U.S. Ambassador (Simmons) or follow his orders to exfiltrate a high-value asset when armed mercenaries storm the U.S. Embassy in London. She’s forced to rely on her instincts and the reluctant help of her battle-hardened ex-fiancé, Connor Wright (Sam Heughan), in the tense hours before extraction.”

Embassy was written and created for TV by Rom Lotan, with John Strickland and Christian Alvaro serving as lead directors. Anna Kendrick, Sam Heughan, Aleksandar Jovanovic, Lydia Leonard, Mitya Savelau, Hasan Akil, James Murray, Luke Treadaway, Stephen Odubola, Katie McGrath, Alexander Karim, and Natalie Mendoza have also been tapped to star in the series.
