‘The X-Files’: ‘Weapons’ Villain Amy Madigan Joins Ryan Coogler’s Reboot!!

The X-Files boasted an impressive roster of guest stars over its eleven-season run, and it seems like Ryan Coogler‘s new reboot of the series will be no different. This time, our intrepid duo of FBI agents are set to encounter a newly iconic horror villain in the course of their investigations, along with a litany of other notables. The X-Files will premiere exclusively on Hulu.

According to reports, Coogler‘s new reboot of The X-Files has lined up a star-studded roster of guest stars. Notably, Amy Madigan, who garnered a Best Supporting Actress Oscar earlier this year for her nightmarish work as Aunt Gladys in last summer’s Weapons, will be dropping into the series. Also set to appear in the show’s first season are Steve Buscemi (Fargo), Ben Foster (Hell or High Water), Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs), Lochlyn Munro (Freddy vs. Jason), Tantoo Cardinal (KIllers of the Flower Moon), Joel D. Montgrand (True Detective), and Sofia Grace Clifton (The Muppets Mayhem). The series will star Danielle Deadwyler and Hamish Patel as a mismatched pair of FBI agents who are assigned to a long-shuttered division of the bureau to investigate unexplained phenomena.

Who Else Guest-Starred on ‘The X-Files’?

In the 1990s, The X-Files was one of the most talked-about series on TV, and attracted a number of high-profile guest stars. Among the notables who menaced or assisted Mulder and Scully were Brad Dourif as a death-row inmate, Ed Asner and Lily Tomlin as an irascible ghost couple, Jodie Foster as the voice of a homicidal tattoo, and Peter Boyle as a reluctant precognitive; the latter won an Emmy for his work. Several actors had guest appearances on the series before their rise to fame, including Ryan Reynolds, Jack Black, Shia LaBeouf, Octavia Spencer, and Aaron Paul. A then-unknown Bryan Cranston starred as an unhinged motorist in the episode “Drive,” which brought him to the attention of that episode’s writer, Vince Gilligan; he would later cast Cranston as Walter White in the smash hit Breaking Bad.

Coogler will write and direct the pilot for The X-Files, and executive produces the series, alongside Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler for Proximity Media, and original X-Files creator Chris Carter. Jennifer Yale (See) will showrun and executive produce. Simone Harris is a co-executive producer, as are stars Deadwyler and Patel.
