Few superheroes have the consistent ability to produce blockbuster smash hits on the same level as Batman. Plenty of actors have taken up the mantle of The Dark Knight over the years, and while it’s still unclear who will play the next version of Bruce Wayne in James Gunn’s DCU, there is another Batman movie moving forward quickly. The Batman Part II, which is a direct sequel to The Batman (2022), appears to be entering production this week as director Matt Reeves has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to officially welcome new and returning cast members to the film. Plot details about The Batman Part II are still being kept under wraps at the time of writing, but every star who’s read the script and spoken about it publicly has only had glowing things to say. In addition to returning stars like Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis, The Batman will feature a few big-time newcomers.
Just a few weeks ago, it was reported that Charles Dance had been cast as Christopher Dent in The Batman Part II. Famed for his role as Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, Chris Dent is the father of Harvey Dent, who will be played by MCU veteran Sebastian Stan. Reeves has recruited another tenured Marvel star to play another key member of the Dent family in Scarlett Johansson, who is reportedly going to star as Gilda Dent, the wife of Harvey Dent. This afternoon, Reeves took to his personal X account to formally welcome Johansson to the film with a gif from Under the Skin hinting at the atmospheric, neo-noir vibe of the sequel. This is part of a larger marketing campaign where Reeves is expected to drop more “welcome” tweets in the coming days.
Is Catwoman in ‘The Batman Part 2’
The biggest presence in The Batman who is not expected to return in The Batman sequel is Zoë Kravitz, who played Selina Kyle/Catwoman. The Batman ending featured her confirming that she would leave Gotham behind, though most fans expected a character of her stature would return in some way. Still, it seems she has been left out in favor of newer characters. The only other detail Reeves has shared about The Batman Part II is that the film will be set in winter against the backdrop of a snowy Gotham City.
